Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 24, 2026  ·  A.R. Roe

01

Overview

RISE: A Christ-Centered Framework for Daily Life (“RISE,” “the App,” “we,” “our”) is an Android application developed and published by A.R. Roe. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you as a user.

RISE is designed with privacy at its core. All user data — habits, goals, study responses, Bible verses, reading positions, and preferences — is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate servers, create user accounts, or collect personal information for our own use.

By installing and using RISE you agree to the practices described in this policy.

02

Information We Collect

Data You Create — Stored On-Device Only

The following data is created by you within the App and stored entirely on your device using Android local storage (AsyncStorage). It never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

Keystone Habits & check-off history
Habit reminder schedules
Goals & progress notes
Study Guide responses
Saved Bible verses & notes
Ebook reading position
Audiobook playback position
Dark mode preference
Auto-advance preference
Playback speed preference

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit: your name, email address, phone number, location, device identifiers, analytics, crash reports, usage statistics, or any other personal information. RISE contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking code of any kind.

03

Android Permissions

RISE requests the following Android permissions. Each permission is used solely to deliver the feature described — never for data collection or advertising.

INTERNET

Required to open Bible verse links and search in YouVersion / Bible.com when you tap a Scripture reference. No data about you is sent over the network by the App itself.

POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Required on Android 13+ to display habit reminder notifications you schedule in the Habit Tracker. Notifications are only sent if you enable them for a specific habit.

SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM & USE_EXACT_ALARM

Allows habit reminders to arrive at the precise time you selected rather than within an approximate window.

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

Allows the App to restore scheduled habit reminders after the device restarts, so your reminders continue without needing to reopen the App.

FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK

Required to keep audiobook playback active and display lock-screen media controls when the screen is off or the App is in the background.

WAKE_LOCK

Prevents the device CPU from sleeping while the audiobook is playing, ensuring uninterrupted playback during extended listening sessions.

VIBRATE

Allows habit reminder notifications to include a vibration pattern on devices where vibration is enabled.

READ_MEDIA_AUDIO (Android 13+) & READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android ≤12)

Reserved for future features that may allow you to load personal audio files. Not actively used in the current release.

04

How Your Data Is Used

All data you enter is used exclusively to power the features of the App on your own device:

Ebook Reader

Your reading position is saved locally so you can resume where you left off. A “Continue Reading” bookmark is shown on the Ebook home screen. This data stays on your device.

Audiobook Player

The App plays MP3 files stored within the App package itself (not streamed from the internet). Your playback position and chapter selection are saved locally. Lock-screen media controls are provided via an Android foreground service — this does not transmit any data.

Habit Tracker

Habits, completion history, streaks, and reminder schedules are stored on-device. When you enable a reminder, the App schedules a local notification using Android’s notification system. No reminder content is sent to external servers.

Goals Tracker

Goals, target dates, and progress notes are stored on-device. This information is never shared or transmitted.

Study Guide

Your responses to study questions are stored on-device using a unique key per question. Responses are never transmitted or backed up to any server.

Bible Verses

Saved verses and personal notes are stored on-device. When you tap a verse reference, the App opens the YouVersion / Bible.com app or website in your browser — that interaction is governed by YouVersion’s own privacy policy. RISE does not share any identifying information with YouVersion.

05

Third-Party Services

YouVersion / Bible.com

When you tap a Scripture reference, RISE uses Android’s deep-link system to open YouVersion or Bible.com. RISE does not pass any personal data to YouVersion. YouVersion’s privacy practices are governed by their own policy at youversion.com/legal/privacy.

OpenAI (Audiobook Generation — Developer Use Only)

The included script generate-audiobook.js is a developer tool used to generate the audiobook MP3 files included in the App package. It communicates with OpenAI’s Text-to-Speech API using the book text. This script is run once by the developer — not by end users — and the resulting audio files are bundled into the App. No end-user data is sent to OpenAI.

No Advertising or Analytics

RISE does not integrate any advertising networks, analytics services (such as Firebase, Mixpanel, or Amplitude), crash reporting tools, or social media SDKs. The App is entirely ad-free.

06

Data Storage & Security

All user-generated data is stored using React Native AsyncStorage, which writes to the standard Android private app data directory (/data/data/com.risechristcenteredliving/). This directory is not accessible to other apps without root access.

Because data is stored locally, it is subject to the security of your device. We recommend using a device screen lock. Data may be lost if you uninstall the App or perform a factory reset. RISE does not currently offer cloud backup — this means you are solely responsible for your data.

We do not transmit your data, so there is no server-side security risk associated with your usage of the App.

07

Children’s Privacy

RISE is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Because the App does not collect personal data from any user, there is no specific risk to children; however, parental supervision is encouraged for younger users engaging with the study and reflection features.

08

Your Rights & Choices

Access & Deletion

Since all data is stored on your device, you have full control at all times. You can delete individual items within the App (habits, goals, study responses, saved verses) or delete all App data at once by uninstalling RISE or clearing App data in your device’s Settings → Apps → RISE → Storage → Clear Data.

Notifications

You can disable all RISE notifications at any time through your device Settings → Apps → RISE → Notifications, or by disabling individual habit reminders within the App’s Habit Tracker screen.

Audiobook Background Playback

The foreground service that enables background audio can be stopped by pausing playback or by dismissing the lock-screen notification. It runs only when audio is actively playing or paused mid-chapter.

09

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the App’s features evolve. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes that affect how personal data is handled (should that ever apply in a future version) will be communicated through an in-app notice.

We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
